What is Adjudicated Property?

By definition, adjudicated property is property that has been placed in state or local governmental hands because local property taxes have not been paid and sequentially have not been redeemed by the debtor. Louisiana law authorizes governmental bodies having jurisdiction over these properties to sell or donate only those that have been adjudicated since January 01, 1975.   All properties adjudicated prior to January 01, 1975 are managed by the Louisiana State Land Office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at (225) 342-4580.

Abandoned adjudicated property sales for Calcasieu Parish are handled by the Adjudicated Property Section of the Division of Planning & Development of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. Questions concerning sales and procedures can be addressed by that office by calling (337) 721-3600 or adjudicatedproperty@cppj.net.
